    Default missing article

    Hi All,

Could you please correct the following sentences? I think in sentence 1, there should be 'a' before 'joint venture'

    1. Lubert acquired Central Parking in joint venture with private equity firms KKR & Co. and Chrysalis Capital.

    2. In school, they used to call him a monkey.

    Thanks,

    MG.

    Hello mg,

I would agree that an "a" is required in the first sentence. Your second looks fine to me.

    All the best,

    MrP

To me the first would be acceptable without "a".

On reflection, I think you're right, Anglika.

Because it is a general statement that the companies are coming together to acquire Central Parking.

An alternative way of saying this, indicating that the deal was a specific joint venture, would be:

As a joint venture, Lubert and private equity firms KKR & Co. and Chrysalis Capital acquired Central Parking.

    Anglika,

Thanks, but now I am more confused. I don't understand what you mean by 'general statement'.
I thought, we were talking about a specific transaction in which Central Parking was acquired by three companies. They formed a joint venture to buy out Central Parking.

    Thanks again,

    MG.

I'd say 'a joint venture', but I think the idea behind not using the article is that they're looking at the process rather than the individual arrangement they set up.
