    Default "have any"

    If i say:

"I had any tomatoes at all" Does it mean that, in fact, I didn't have tomatoes? or that i had them all regardless their type, size...?

    Thanks a lot

As it stands it makes no sense.

I had no tomatoes at all OR I hadn't any tomatoes = I didn't have tomatoes

I have all kinds of tomatoes = I have many different types of tomato.

    Thank you both,

I know the sentence seems incorrect, that is why i am a bit confused. It is in the book i am reading and it goes:
"his argument was based in the fact that Paul had any tomatoes at all, regardless of the size..."

What do you think this means?

There is an element of surprise that Paul had tomatoes at all - "any" is used as an emphasizer.
