    I didn't know most of these viruses existed.

    Can't this sentence mean two things:
    1-I thought they were imaginary things, invented by SF writers (an unlikely meaning)
    2-About most of these viruses, I had no information, not even that they existed.

    Yes, it can, but the first is rather unlikely.
