    quite/pretty

    The drawing was quite beautiful.
    The drawing was pretty beautiful.

    Similarly,

How would you understand the above sentences with respect to "quite", pretty"?

    Please help me.

    Re: quite/pretty

‘Pretty’ here is used colloquially as ‘fairly’ or ‘moderately’.

    "Pretty" is equal to "very".

To me "pretty beautiful" can be damning with faint praise. Its precise nature will be in the tone of voice used.

I agree with the posters. Pretty can mean (i) fairly, as in moderately, or (ii) very, as in more than moderately, even genuinely, as in quite beautiful.
