    at the same stage

I'm trying to say that the same action happened in the past and is happening now.

Liverpool takes on Everton in the FA Cup semifinals. The two teams met at the same stage last year when the Merseysiders won 2-1 to advance to the final.

Can we use "at the same stage" as a replacement for "they also played in last year's semifinals"?
