    Default knuckles white

Hello, i am searching over half an our the meaning of two expressions (?), that of "knuckles white" and "final cut".
I 've noticed that the first one is often used in poems, lyrics and in literature in general, am i right?

P.S: Just for reference, i am currently studying the lyrics of Pink Floyd's album "The Final Cut", it may help you.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

The problem with song lyrics is their idiosyncratic use of phrases.

    However:

knuckles white - if you clench your fist, your knuckles go white.

final cut - the last cut, the cut that finishes something, the cut that ends it all.

A white knuckle experience is one that is tension filled. Example: "It was a white knuckle plane trip."

Thanks very very much both of you.
I think that this exegesis of "white knuckle" is more accurate. However, it seems greek to me its usage in the below phrase:
"in quiet desperation knuckles white upon the slippery reins".

The whole stanza is the following and has to do with the Falklands War. (where says "she" means Margaret Thatcher).

    she stands upon southampton dock
    with her handkerchief
    and her summer frock clings
to her wet body in the rain
    in quiet desperation knuckles
    white upon the slippery reins
she bravely waves the boys goodbye again

I don't want to make you interpet the lyrics. But, if you would like you can help me.

    Thanks

She is clutching the reins so tightly that her knuckles are white: metaphorically - she is holding onto her emotions, trying not to break down.
