Difference between : back, before, ago

My wife died ten years back.
My wife died ten years before.
My wife died ten years ago.

Could anyone tell me what is the difference between "back", "before" and "ago" generally?

"My wife died five years back/ago" are both acceptable statements that she has been dead for five years.

My wife died five years before > before what? There must be something.

Hi eveyone, at first thank you all I benefited a lot from the forum.

While I was surfing on the forum, I stumbled upon this topic. I make the same mistake about the usage of "before" very often. That's why I wanted to post a mesage. It is a kind of bad habit of me. The teachers, you'd probably know that it's difficult to ged rid of the bad habits of students.

That's why, I wanted to ask that "is it exactly wrong"? or can it be considered as "before now" if it is verbal?

P.S: I hope I didn't break any forum rules, as it was my the firt post.
