    Default two phrasal verb questions

"break it down" is often heard especially in rap song lyrics. Any idea what it means??

"hold somebody down" when a couple kisses each other and woman says to a man that "I'll hold you down"

In music, if you break it down, you remove some instruments to give more prominence to the beat. Would that work in rap too?

Here are lyrics for two different songs
I guess you are right when it comes to first song but in second one they just keep saying/singing break it down, break it down c'mon

As we break it down to the nitty gritty groove
The bits and the pieces, the electric boogaloo
Yes we be rockin', saluting old school
It never went away, just check out my moves

oh yeah (we’re feelin’ really hot)
everybody in the house (we’re feelin’ really hot)
break it down c’mon break it on down
    my bruthas and sistas
    you can’t stop us
    we’re gonna rock
    from dawn
    to dusk
    because we are
    the three crazy homies

Maybe it just sounds good to them.
