    Default I'm cracking skulls?

    Hi,

Recently I watched an old movie called "The Breakfast Club".
There's a line spoken by a teacher warning the teenagers "The next time I have to come in here, I'm cracking skulls."
    What does "cracking skulls" mean?
Does it literally mean a skull which has cracks on it?

    Thanks.

I think it is a warning, threat . The teacher will perhaps be more serious if his/her students have not studied harder. He or she will punish them.

His threat literally means he's going to hit the students in the head, but it's really an empty threat, since such corporal punishment is illegal in the US. His figurative meaning is that the students are going to be in serious trouble (maybe further detention, or suspension) if they don't start behaving. Teachers will often use such threats ("cracking skulls" or "kicking butts") as metaphors to indicate that they are serious and no further misbehavior will be tolerated.
