    Default business salutations

As a school we send frequent informal letters to our parents. Does the womans or mans name come first...Dear Daniel and Susan? or Dear Susan and Daniel?

Also, when listing parents, as in a phone directory, should the mans or womans name come first when you are using the last name...Daniel and Susan Smith? or is it Susan and Daniel Smith?

    Default Re: business salutations

    Welcome to the forums.

Informal letters are not governed by rules. If you are writing home, you can say Dear Mum and Dad or Dear Dad and Mum [or however you address them], whichever suits you.

Listing names in a directory: normally, with a married couple, the man's initial will come first: D[onald]. and S[heila]. Jones
