    Default word meaning

    1. What is the difference between "migrant" and "migratory" since both can
    be used as an adjective?
    2. What do we call the flower of barley, wheat or rice? Should we
    use "bloom" or blossom"?

#1 migrant = a person who moves regularly in order to find work

migratory = of, relating to, or characterized by migration {usually used to refer to birds and animals moving from one hemisphere to the other every year]

#2 The "flower" turns into a head of seeds which are called an ear of barley, a head of wheat, a panicle of rice. It is not usual to talk of flowers for these plants.

Thank your for your reply. Yet, according to Oxford Dictionary for Advanced Learners,"migrant" can be used as an adjective. Then, is there any difference between the two adjectives "migrant" and "migratory"?

"A migrant worker" is someone who travels in order to find work.

"A migrant people" are a group who are moving from one country to another in order to seek land.

A migratory herd of elk is a group on animals that each year follow a migration route.

    Please excuse my intervention.

    2. What do we call the flower of barley, wheat or rice? Should we
    use "bloom" or blossom"?

If Anglika have no objections, you could use also the following word

    spike·let (spīk'lĭt)
    n. A small or secondary spike, characteristic of grasses and sedges, having a varying number of reduced flowers each subtended by one or two scalelike bracts.

    as Aglika's: pan·i·cle (păn'ĭ-kəl)
    n. A branched cluster of flowers in which the branches are racemes.

    and

ear of rye, a spike (head)
