    Default a modal question?

Gamze and Murat ---- up soon; they both seem very sad and I hardly ever see them together anymore.

    A) must have broken
    B) have been breaking
    C) should have broken
    D) were able to break
    E) ought to be breaking

    I stuck between "A" and "E"; So I need a native opinion:)

Any'll be much appreciated! Thanks in advance:)

    A) must have broken
=> soon is a problem, unless it's supposed to mean recently, in which case A) works.

    E) ought to be breaking
=> It's an odd way to put it though because ought to expresses an obligation. It begs the question, why were they obligated to break up?

"ought to" also has a meaning of probability and it shares this meaning with 'should be /probably will be /likely will be' and that is likely the modal meaning here.

Only E is possible Unreg, because of the presence of 'soon'.
