    what ' is the difference between the American and Birtish words ?

    Well, there are differences in spelling, such as theatre/theater; centre/center, etc
    Also, there are phrases which have different meanings: 'bread and butter'(UK) means, the way one provides one's living. eg 'Teaching is my bread and butter'
    In USA, 'bread and butter' means a bargain.
