    Plural Noun in an asking sentence

    My daughter just brough home an assignment to write the noun in the plural form in some sentences. It was fine until she came to this one:
    Who read the story?
    Is the noun of the sentence story or who?
    If it is who, is there a plural form of it.
    Thanks for your help

    Who read the story?

    What was read >> the story [object]

    Who = subject of "read".

    Who = pronoun = what or which person or people?
    It is both singular and plural.

    who - interrogative pronoun

    read - verb ;past tense simple

    the - definite article

    story - noun [direct object]; plural form -stories
