    confined vs cramped

    Is there a difference between "confined" and "cramped" space?

    There can be. A confined space can be quite spacious; it just has definite boundaries. The exercise yard in a prison is "confined"; even the cells in a prison are not cramped - if they were, that would be a violation of the prisoners' human rights. When a space is cramped, it is physically uncomfortable to spend time in.
