    Default character vs personality

What's the difference between character and personality? Why can only the first fill in the gap in the following sentence?
If I had to write myself a ... reference, I'd describe myself as quiet rather than outgoing.
    Thank you.

In relation to its use with reference, it means the person's working ability and probity. A person of good character is one who is reliable and honest. A person of bad character is one who is unreliable and probably dishonest. You do not write your own character reference - it has of necessity to come from someone who has employed you or who has good knowledge of you.

Personality is the personal nature of the individual, the thing that makes him or her different from other people.

So I guess that makes character become deeper than personality, because you can fake your personality, you can barely change your character?

I think it is the opposite, Pesonality reflects one's nature, disposition, makeup which are inborn and very difficult to change where as charecter refects the general tendency of a person's behavior which can change with environment and company.
