Smile I followed this up with clam soup

So at home tonight I ate a good, old-fashioned Taiwanese dinner box, and I followed this up with clam soup and a big cup of high mountain tea.

Could I write "after this/then I drank/enjoyed" instead of the part in bold? Thanks.

    I like the first sentence

You don't drink your soup, unless it is in a cup. You eat your soup. I know in asian culture often bowls are raised to the lips but this is not considered polite in western culture.

Thanks, Naamplao, for the extra advice.
    I get it now.
