No, there is nothing wrong with 'in' here.

    How about:
When I was a junior high school, I enjoyed mathematics and history and I liked the teacher who teach the subject.

Blouen, how clever of you to be a junior high school! How you must have changed since then.

When I was in junior... When I attended junior... When I was a pupil in junior...

We would not in these contexts require "a" unless there was a specific reason to indicate the type of school.

I could also say : When I was a junior high school student,RIGHT?

Actually, this is not my statement, I'm just gathering some info on how I could reprove this statement.

I think it should be "in"instead of "a".

I think it should be "in"instead of "a". If I understand you right, then "in junior high school" is right, and the inclusion of "a" is unnecessary.
