    Hi, Samfat!

The teacher believes the student is being disrespectful. The sentence that is most frequently used in this type of situation is: "Do not speak to me in that tone!"

    Cheers,

Believe it or not, English is a tonal language.

By placing the stress on different words in a sentence a different meaning is created.

Suppose a teacher said this to a student

"Johnny I want you to finish your homework"

    If the student responded

" I'm not going to finish my homework" The emphasis of the word "not" gives a tone of defiance to the sentence. So the teacher might respond

" Do not speak to me in this tone. You will finish your homework or I shall have to talk to your parents about your attitude. "
