Smile carry/lift just one giant puppet

The ideas and designs are big. Sometimes a thousand people are needed to carry just one giant puppet!

The ideas and designs are big. Sometimes it is necessary for a thousand people to lift just one giant puppet!

Are the above two versions similar to each other in sense?
Besides, are carry and lift synonymous with each other? Thanks.

Not exactly Angli, "lift" means it would take the thousand people to simply get the puppet off the ground, and "carry" would indicate that it takes all those people to get it off the ground and walk with it.

Thanks, moggy, for the helpful reply.

By the way, are the two versions about the same in sense except for the difference between carry and lift?

    Angli,

Yes, the two examples convey the same basic idea except for the difference between 'carry' and 'lift'. It's going to take many people to move the puppet...'lift' will move it up and 'carry' will move it up and across.

    Cheers,

Thanks, Amigos, for the clear reply.
I find the phrase "convey the same basic idea" very useful, but I doubt if I could also write "communicate/spread/pass/reveal/show the same basic idea."
