Default protect sb/ sth from doing sth/ being done?

We say "prevent sb from doing sth", but can we say "protect sb from doing sth; protect sth from being done"? like in:

We must protect the environment from being damaged.

I read this structure in our textbook, but I can't find this structure in any dictionary. Could you tell me if it is a good structure to use?

    Hi Joham,
We can say either; "We must prevent the environment from being damaged" or ".....protect the environment from damage"

You can protect a person from something, and you can prevent a person from doing something.

You would be understood if you said "we must protect the environment from being damaged" but it sounds clumsy.
    Hope this explains it!
