as far as i can remeber a transitive verb is that one that demands an object. an intransitive one doesn't.
"to rise" is intrasitive. u don't need to say anything else for the sentence to make sense. it doesn't demand any object.
"to raise" is transitive because it demands an object. who raises, raises something, like an arm, for example.
i wonder if i am right...
