    "the press" = newspaper men
    "hog the seats" = take up all the seats so no one else can use them.

    There is no term "press hog" [though it is one that might be worth introducing]

    Thank you very much... it was very well explained... I found such expresson on Tina Brown's "The Diana Chronicles"; which, by the way, is an amazing book... very well written & hard to put down.
