Smile outnumbering the positive trend species

A considerable number of species (outnumbering the positive trend species) are in real danger of extinction, while the places they live and communities that are valuable to biological diversity face great pressures.

Does the above make sense to you, especially the underlined part? Thanks.

It is not well written, but yes, it makes sense. I believe that the author is saying that there is a larger number of species with seriously declining numbers than species with increasing numbers.

    I hope this helps.
