    It is essential you ?

Hallo, I would be very appreciated if you could help me and explain why shoud we use verbs in such constructions in this way
    - It is high time that you HAD grown up.
    - Isn’t it time you STOPPED playing?

I don't understand this construction and have no idea how to open brackets in following sentences

1 It is necessary that he (to be) told his colleagues’ opinion.
2 It is proper that you (to make up your mind) whether you come or stay.
3 It is possible that he (to turn over) a new leaf in his life.
4 It is wrong that he (not to know) these spelling rules.
5 It is right that you (to begin) preparing for your autumn exams.
6 It is essential that you (to have) a heart to heart talk.
7 In the rush of things it was a pity that he (to have forgotten) to thank her for her kindnes.

Please help me! I can't find any information anywhere!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi!

Is this an assignment? I hope not. We are not supposed to do homework on this forum.
    1. It is necessary that he be told his colleagues` opinion.
2.It is proper that you make up your mind whether you come or stay.
3 It is possible that he turn over a new leaf in his life.
4 It is wrong that he not know these spelling rules. - the subjunctive does not take the word do.
5 It is right that you begin preparing for your autumn exams.
6 It is essential that you have a heart to heart talk.
7 In the rush of things it was a pity that he had forgotten to thank her for her kindness.

Subjunctive mood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Examples of the subjunctive mood in English

This is the subjunctive mood. It typically expresses wishes, commands (in subordinate clauses), emotion, possibility, judgment, necessity, and statements that are contrary to fact at present
The subjunctive looks like the infinitive form of the verb, and all persons (including the third person singular) are written or spoken without an "s".

    Hi,

    < Longman >
    it is essential (that)
    - It is essential that our pilots are given the best possible training.

It is essential that "someone/something (plural)" + "be"...
It is essential that "someone/something (plural)" + "are"...
Even though the "someone/something" is plural, the first form is more common, isn't it? Is the second acceptable, too?

    - It is high time that you HAD grown up. this is wrong use of the past perfect aspect with the phrase It's high time, I think.
    - Isnít it time you STOPPED playing?

I don't understand this construction (Neither do I)
It's high time you were to grow up. means you behave as a child even though you are an adult.
    It's time you stopped playing.

In these two sentences the past subjunctives (were, stopped) have been used.

    T
    here are two forms
present subjunctive takes form of the bare infinitive of the verb (without sufix s in the third person) and
past subjunctive takes form of the simple past (there are some exceptions with the verb to be, usually were is used instead of was to emphasis unreality)

In BrE the present subjunctive is used to express a wish, hope, supernatural powers etc
the past subjunctive is used to indicate unreality
He behaves as though he were the owner of the lake.

Also with the well known phrase

    It's (high) time

It's (high) time you listened to me!
    etc..

The given examples 1-7, solved out by Teia, looked like to me such as AmE use of subjunctive mood. Anyway I am confused about 1 to 7.
