Smile caused a reaction/chemistry on my skin

It was the chemicals in the soap that caused a reaction/chemistry on my skin.

Do both reaction and chemistry work in the above context and mean about the same? Thanks.

No, chemistry and reaction do not mean the same thing.

    Thanks, Ron.
But do they both work in the base sentence?

Your skin might react to the chemicals in the soap you are using. Thus, there would be a reaction to them. We wouldn't say there was a chemistry to them. Chemistry is the study of chemical reactions. It is not itself a reaction.
