    Default the word "spend"

    hello,

In my knowledge the word " spend", its subject is always sb. but recently I saw a sentence "The light of the sun spends eight minutes arriving in the earth." Is the sentence correct? Can sth. be the subejct of "spend"?

    Thanks

Yes, in your example sentence it means that the light takes that long to get from the sun to earth. People spend time. Light spends time. But in different ways.

There is also a meaning of "spend" which is "to wear out or exhaust".

    The hurricane finally spent itself.
