    Default today's world

So much is going on in today's world that sometimes it gets tiresome trying to keep up with it all and make sense of people, places and events. Even though following current events and reading history are among my favorite activities, at times I get a little tired of doing so. It is very tempting to retreat into the personal realm and take a more passive approach to life. But something always seem to jar me out of that state of mind.

What do the texts in bold mean?

"make sense of something" = understand something

"to jar me out..." = If your car stops suddenly or is driven into, you will be jarred by the impact. So in this context something you read or hear or see shakes you out of passivity.

    * make sense - to be reasonable or comprehensible ; dictionary.com

So if something doesn't make sense - it is not understandable or comprehensible

If someone is not making sense to me - I couldn't understand him

To say : Now, you're not making sense - What I'm doing/saying is not reasonable/intelligible

Did I use them here well? Or didn't I make sense again?
