    Could you please help me with this question. What's better to use in this sentence:

    .......... soldiers saluted as the officer went past.
    a) both
    b) all of

    It depends how many soldiers there are. If there are only two, then (a).

    If more than two, then it would be, "All of the soldiers saluted as the officer went past."

    That's probabely it - there's "the" missing.
    It means that (a) is correct.
