    Default question

-He didn't help me and then went and told everybody lies bout me.
    -Why?

I want to know what full sentence can ask the question the "why" is asking here.

Why didn't he help you and then...

I would change that to "Why did he refuse/fail to help you and then tell everybody lies about you?

    So would you say that:

"Why didn't he help you and then went and told everybody lies about you."

is wrong or is it just a bit "heavy"?

It's a bit clumsy. The problem is deciding where the influence of "didn't" ends. Does it apply only to "help" or does it also go with "went/go"? The reader stumbles.
