    Default several grammar questions

    Dear teachers,

Would you please help me out with the following difficulties?
(help me out = bail me out ?)

    1) It's a story about... THAT (= dont in French ?) we don't know if it is true or false.
(how should this sentence be written please?)

    2) position of adverbs: Correct ?
    a) He PROBABLY wouldn't have met him.
    b) He would PROBABLY not have met him.
    c) He would PROBABLY have never met him.

    3) mixed conditional ?
If it WERE known it WOULD HAVE BEEN mentioned in the text. (correct ?)

    4) since + simple past ?
Shakespeare's plays STARTED to be performed SINCE 1592.

    A thousand thanks.

(how should this sentence be written please?) The sentence is better rephrased as "This is a story about xxxxx, but we do not know if it is true or false". "dont" carries many possible interpretations!

    2) position of adverbs: Correct ? Yes
    a) He PROBABLY wouldn't have met him.
    b) He would PROBABLY not have met him.
    c) He would PROBABLY have never met him.

    Hello Anglika,

In #2, could I say "he would PROBABLY have NOT met him" instead of "he would PROBABLY NOT have met him" ?

In #4, is it always impossible to use "since" with the simple past?

    5) Should I use "throughout" or "during" or both here?

    a) "The plays had been / were (?) performed THROUGOUT / DURING the next ten years"

    b) "He had acted / had been acting / acted (?) THROUGHOUT / DURING the next ten years"
    Kindest regards

In #4, is it always impossible to use "since" with the simple past? No - "It was a long time since the first production of a new Shakespeare play".

But you can't say "started since" - since = from the time mentioned until the present

    a) "The plays had been / were (?) performed THROUGOUT / DURING the next ten years"

    b) "He had acted / had been acting / acted (?) THROUGHOUT / DURING the next ten years"

Throughout = all the time in that time; During = at some point(s) in that time.

    Kindest regards
