    Default does the word internet has to be capitalized?

    does the word internet has to be capitalized?

    when i typed out in microsoft word it says it has to be capitalized.
    i don't capitalize
    i am wondering does it have to be capitalized

    Microsoft insist on capitalising it, but many don't bother. I capitalise in formal texts and use lower case elsewhere.

    oh ic becuase i prefer it in lower case
    what kind of text do you consider formal texts

    If I were writing it in my CV, say, I would use a capital letter.

    In my opinion, they are different. "internet" is a general term, short for internetwork. Any network interconnecting computing devices can be called "internet". "Internet" is a specific computer networking. The standards of the Internet are specified by some international organization.

    Interesting point there, Joe, and in your example you could easily capitalise, but I would still probably use a small letter informally as it isn't actually the name of something, just as I would say 'the standards of business are regulated...'
