    Thumbs down asking about height

    Can we say "how long is the elephant"knowing that the sentence was the elephant is 4mlhigh and 7m long

    The question may be "how high and how long is the elephant?” or “what is the height and length of the elephant?”

    A more natural-sounding question would be: "How big is the elephant?"

    By the way, I'd prefer "how tall" to "how high" when speaking of living creatures.

    I, too, prefer 'how tall' instead of 'how high'. How tall is the giraffe? How tall is the elk? We wouldn't ask 'How high is aggelos' unless aggelos was taking non-prescriptive drugs!
