    I would like to know the difference between "1" and "2".

    2. That got me thinking about what is important to me.

    In the first sentence, it suggests that whatever it was actually forced you to really think hard about the subject. It made you think about it, whether you wanted to or not.

    In the second sentence, (which is a more colloquial, natural expression) it means it started me thinking about it -it sent my brain in a particular direction.
