    Default identify

    Hi there,

I don't understand the meaning of 'identified' in the following sentence. What is the difference if I replace 'became' with 'was'?

Which saint became identified with Father Christmas?

    Thanks
    pete

    Default Re: identify

Came to mean the same as/became the person that people know as.

Was identified may be misunderstood as having been identified in the past but not any more. Became identified is safer.
