    Default Please help me rephrase

    Hi

I am not sure if my sentences are correct. Would you be so kind and help me?
    I stopped jogging in 1990.
    It`s...... .
My answer: It`s a long time / It`s ages since I stopped jogging.

When did you buy that hat?
    How long... .
    My answer: How long is since you bought that hat? { Should I use present perfect?}

Cars are more expensive than they used to be.
    The price of cars.... .
My answer: The price of cars has risen/ grown / The price of cars is higher than it used to be. I don`t know which of the two verbs is more suitable for the first sentence.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Either will do.

...has risen. Use 'to grow' for something increasing in size.
Thank you very much in advance.
Your second sentence (of the last two) is better. Consider also:
The price of cars has risen over the last two years,
The price of cars has risen again,
The price of cars has risen higher than expected.

Thank you very much Apex2000. That`s the answer I`ve been waiting for : The price of cars has risen higher than expected.
    Thank you again.

What about: How long ago did you buy the hat?, would that one also be possible?; and How long have you had that hat?.

Both are correct but it could depend upon the hat in question. 'buy that hat' and 'had the hat' are also correct. The difference is very slight and in conversation would depend upon who was talking to whom about one or more hats.

    Say:
It's been a long time since I stopped jogging.
    Or:
It's been ages since I stopped jogging.

I was gonna say that too, Ron, add 'been', as the "It's a long time//It's ages since" sounded so decidedly informal as to be unnatural. But after a bit more thinking and some googlin', I believe I found that we couldn't preclude the simpler versions.

    Still some major

Is it because it's Sunday and I didn't go to church, again?

Ok, thanks apex, I think I know the difference, it slipped my hand? (can I say that?) I mean, I didn't do it on purpose, just by mistake. Thanks again
