"Don't new wine in an old bottle"/"You can't put new wine in an old bottle" = New ideas cannot be put into a framework that cannot accept them.

Comes from the nature of fermenting wine, which will cause old containers to explode. Originally wine was kept in either clay jars or skin containers which could not withstand the effects of the fermentation.
