    Synthesis - using 'unless'

Given this sentence 'We will be able to see Venus if the sky is clear.', can we accept the following sentence 'We will be able to see Venus unless the sky is not clear.' for synthesis?

unless means, except if ~ expect for one condition:

2a. We will be able to see Venus, unless the sky isn't clear. (OK)
2b. We will be able to see Venus, except if the sky isn't clear. (OK)

2a. and 2b. carry the same meaning: We will be able to see Venus, but if for some reason we are not able to see Venus, it will be because of one condition: the sky being cloudy.
