Default Is a dream a lie if it donīt come true

    Dear all,

gramatically I would say that it should be "Is a dream a lie if it doesnīt come true". But I have heard that "Is a dream a lie if it donīt come true" is more common. Could someone confirm it?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Dany

Use: "Is a dream a lie if it donīt come true?" when singing a country-western song.

Use: Is a dream a lie if it doesn't come true? in a conversation.

You have to be careful of the context or situation:

Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true

These are lyrics to a song. How will the line scan and sing if 'doesn't' is used?
There's one beat too many. Also, the rhythm is changed from /// which is emphatic, to /u//. Also, importantly, there is the vowel triangle to be considered when writing lyrics. The singer has to form the words, and this means changing tongue and mouth positions. Say the words out loud to yourself, and feel in your mouth the difference between 'it don't come true' and 'it doesn't come true' - the mouth has to suddenly open wider for the 'o' in 'does'. Compare if the flow of vowels followed the vowel triangle - (this represents how one vowel sound can change smoothly into another) and so the line became, 'if it don't come true for me' -see how no sudden jumps in the position of the mouth or tongue occur?
In lyrics, especially pop songs, these considerations take precedence over grammar!!

Depends on the beats. Some triple up words for one beat.

Now those memories come back to haunt me
they will haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it doesn't come true

Or is it just for better or worse?
