Default back to the solid earth.

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to interpret the meaning of the following phraseological combination:

We brought them back to the solid earth.

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

    Regards.

    V.

    (Not a teacher)

To bring someone back to solid earth means to bring someone back to reality from day-dreaming.

    Hi stalstudent,

Thank you for your prompt and suggestive explanation.

Presuably the expression in question is interrelated with the expression “ let one’s thougt go wool-gathereing” or “be in the clouds” or “daydream”, but whitout any apparent connection with the expression “fall from the moon”?

    Regards.
