What can you say FOR and AGAINST theatre?

When cinema was invented, some people predicted that theatre would not last very long, but it still exists, attarcts large audience and is not likely to disappear.
What could be said FOR and AGAINST theatre?
Do you have any good ideas?

Re: What can you say FOR and AGAINST theatre?

Actually, in the US cinema attendance has been declining steadily in the past few years. Big screen TVs are more affordable now, so many people have 50" screens or larger in their homes and do their movie-watching there. You can rent a DVD for a few dollars and watch in the comfort of your own living room. Families with children don't have to worry about getting a babysitter, you don't have to pay outrageous prices for popcorn and snacks, and you can pause the movie if you need to run to the bathroom or refill your drink.

Presumably the topic refers to live theatre as opposed to cinema?

I agree with Ouisch - it is cinema that is on the decline, whereas live theatre seems to be thriving.

    Oh Gosh!
I have just woken up to see, if you have written any ideas - and I'm angry a little bit, because firstly, I don't have time to write it today
    and secondly,
you haven't given an answer to my question. I've always gotten good ideas from you except present moment...
I asked, "FOR THEATRE" and "AGAINST THEATRE"
I have hardly heard about points against it, but why about points FOR? I supposed your help to save my time...
Well, I need to be more circumspect in future...
    Still thanks for your "help"!

Re: What can you say FOR and AGAINST theatre?

I misunderstood the question, sorry. I thought he was using "theater" to refer to the movies or cinema.

PRO theater: It's an afternoon or evening of live entertainment, it's fun to get dressed up and go downtown or to the theater district, and it sometimes provides an opportunity to see film or TV stars in person (often such stars decide to try "the legitimate theater" and appear on Broadway and in road shows).
