Which is correct, 'Clearer' or 'More clear'?

To my understanding, 'clearer' is the correct comparative form of 'clear'.

But is 'more clear' completely wrong? Why were there hundreds of items coming up when I did a google research on 'more clear'?

The google research I took is as below:

"more clear" - Google Search=

Thanks.

But is 'more clear' completely wrong? No it is not. Some native speakre say that more clear sometimes feels better and sounds better. I can never figure out when is "sometimes". Why were there hundreds of items coming up when I did a google research on 'more clear'? When you type "more clearer" you are going to get some hits too. Google hits do not mean anything to me. I did BNC search and got some results though.
