    meaning of "split hairs"

    can somebody give me sample sentences of how to use "split hairs" and elaborate on its meaning.I would really appreciate that, thank you.

    A hair being very small in diameter, splitting one would result in something extremely small, not to mention the amount of care and dexterity required to actually perform the task, assuming it was possible in the first place.

    Idiomatically, "splitting hairs" refers to arguing about very small differences or unimportant details.
