    word choice

    Hi,

    Please read the following sentence.

John/John's is not an isolated case, neither/nor is it extraordinary or special. Therein lies the tragedy of being a child in this day and age.

Which of the highlighted words is a better choice? Do explain the reasons as well for your choice.

    Regards,

    Re: word choice

    Hi kamlesh

John's is not an isolated case, nor is it extraordinary or special. Therein lies the tragedy of being a child in this day and age.

The verb in the first clause is copular is, so John's (case) = not an isolated case, not John = not an isolated case. John is human; he can't be a thing, a case.

The first clause has not, so the second clause takes nor.
