I have read somewhere that "Dear All" as an opening salutation is grammatically incorrect. But I know it is widely used. Is it correct or not?
banderas - the man who started this discussion (gonseth) hasn't answered the question why he believed that "Dear All" is incorrect. He introduced himself as an English teacher. I thougt maybe he was right and there is a grammatical rule not considered by other participants.
It seems to be there is not such a rule and I can use "Dear All" writing my emails
Thank you for your reply
I took a look again and could see that he was a native of Swiss-English.
"Dear All" seemed correct to me. If I had been wrong saying so, believe me, the native speakers from this forum would not let me get away with this. They would definitely have corrected me.
Just make sure, you will use the expression in the right context as it is quite informal, at least to me.
