A person who mediates and gets involved

    Hi,

I would like to know the adjective that describes a person who mediates in a fight between two people in order to stop the fight but gets involved in the fight himself/herself.

I know that the word sounds like mediator, gladiator etc...i.e...it ends with "-ator", however I cannot recall what the word is.

    Any other suggessions are welcome.

    Thanks

There are 2 words that end in -ator, mediator, arbitrator.

    Hi Soup,

Thanks for the inputs. However the word arbitrator has the following meanings as per the Cambridge Online Dictionary website:

"a person who has been officially chosen to make a decision between two people or groups who do not agree"...

This means that an arbitrator is supposed 2 be neutral in his approach.
It does not mention anywhere whether the person himself starts fighting with the two parties or not...

What I want to know is the word for the "arbitrator" who starts fighting with one or both the involved parties.

    Suggessions are appreciated.
