    grammatical comment!

I have to comment on the underlined part:

At stake for Ireland, say Irish advocates of a yes vote, is their country's place in the EU.

But i am having difficulties with it!

Is it a clause? if it is then "say" must be the predicator, "Irish advocates" is subject, but what is "of a yes vote? An object - a compliment???

To be technical, "of a yes vote" is the postmodifier in the noun phrase "Irish advocates of a yes vote". It acts like an adjective coming after the noun.

The subject of your sentence is the noun phrase "Irish advocates of a yes vote".

Okay, thank you! - If "irish advocates of a yes vote" is the subject, then that makes my job a lot easier!
