    Default Watermelon

Hello! Could you please proofread the story? Thank you!

There’s an interesting story of mine lodged in my mind. In a summer night, I was in grade one at that time, my elder cousin took a big round watermelon on his hands. The watermelon made my mouth full of water.

“ Wenwen, do you want to eat watermelon” he asked.
“ Betcha” I answered so eagerly.

My elder cousin cut the watermelon to several pieces. I took one and bite it at once, and then following several other pieces in a run. Looking at how gluttonous I was, he said with a smile, “ Wenwen, you have ate the seeds along too.” Oh, yeah, that was true. I gulped down them all. After a short while, I had a little tummy ache suddenly.

My elder cousin laughed, “Be careful! The watermelon seed will grow out a big and round watermelon in your belly.”
I felt very worried and asked, what should I do them? Tell me please.”
“ Drink more hot water to burn the waterweeds died.” He advised
I drank a lot of hot water in haste at once. My elder cousin laughed inwardly. Now whenever it comes to my mind, I feel how funny it is.

PS: It is not my story.

“ Drink some hot water to kill the watermelon seeds.” He advised.

I drank a lot of hot water at once. My elder cousin laughed inwardly. Now whenever it comes to my mind, I feel how funny it is.

Here's an interesting story I remember well. One summer night when I was in first grade, my elder cousin took a big round watermelon in his hands. The sight of the watermelon made my mouth water.

Just rush to say thanks, RonBee. And the sentence I quote is exactly what I meant. I hadn't known how to express that. You took it out of my mouth.

    First sentence:
You don't need at once. Delete it.
    Second sentence:
How do you know he laughed inwardly? (Prefer "He smirked" or something like that.)
    Third sentence, say:
Now whenever it comes to mind I think about how funny it was.

    Hi Anglika,

I have two questions as below. Could you please give me a hand? Thanks in advance.

Q1: What's the difference between "eat" and "have something"?

In Mandarin, we "eat" every kind of food except "drinking" liquid if translated literally. But in English, I knew " have" has the similar meaning. Sometimes, I use " have" and sometimes I use " eat" in English. Two words fight against each other. So could you please illustrate the usage of them?

I suppose " eat" focuses on how people take food but " have" is whether people take food or not. Am I right?

    eg1-1. I have had a meal.(correct?)
    eg1-2 I have eaten a meal. (wrong?)

    eg2-1. I am eating noodle.(correct?)
eg2-2. I am having noodle. (wrong?)

Q2: "Do you want...?" vs. " Would you like...?"

If my friends call on me, I ask whether they would like to have something. How do I say properly? #1 or #2? I choose #1.

#1 Would you like a cup of tea?
#2 Do you want a cup of tea?
