    Default expressing astonishment disbelief, disapproval

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to comment on the following sentences expressing astonishment, disbelief, disapproval?

    1.0. The tickets are sold out.
    1.1. What a pity the tickets should be sold out!
    1.2. Isnít it strange that the tickets should be sold out?
    1.3. It was impossible that the tickets should be sold out.
    1.4. Rather odd that the tickets should be sold out.

    2.0. He lost the key again.
    2.1. It is curious that he should have lost the key again.
    2.3. What a pity that he should have lost the key again.
    2.4. How annoying that he should have lost the key again.

    Wow! This is a hard one. Here are my best guesses using the definitions below.

    A= astonishment, wonder or surprise
    DB= disbelief, doubt about the truth
    DA = disapproval, condemnation or censure

    A = The tickets are sold out.
    = What a pity ...
    DB = Isn't it strange ... ?
    DB = It was impossible ...
    DB = Rather odd ...

    A = He lost the key again.
    DB = It is curious ...
    = What a pity ...
    DA = How annoying ...

    Note, the phrase what a pity expresses a disappointment.
