    Smile Room by room wallpaper?

    Hello, everybody

I'm reading a shortstory called Hairball and I happened to find an expression I cannot understand. Talking about a very prissy character, it reads:

"Her mind was room by room Laura Ashley wallpaper: tiny, unopened pastel buds arranged in straight rows."

I can't find the meaning of room by room. I'd really appreciate if you could help me out with an explanation or a translation or as you can!

    Thanks in advanced

    Re: Room by room wallpaper?

Room by Room- meaning that all of her parts, capabilities, wishes, thoughts are as one. She (the character) is somehow one sided and concentrated on one thing, weather she is a child or just a woman concerned with just one special thing.
    I hope I m right!

You are 'spot on', apedescendent! See the attached thumbnail for a metaphorical example of what an uninspired brain might look like.

    Cheers,

I still cannot understand the expression fully
    Maybe with a synonym?

How about 'boring', 'unimaginative', 'commonplace', 'non-spontaneous', 'close minded', and 'drab'?

I doubt that this person would be much fun when it comes to brainstorming new and creative ideas!

    Cheers,
    Amigo
